Dr Sandhya Sriram

Dr. Sandhya Sriram is the Chief Executive Officer at Sprout.

A stem cell biologist and scientist by training and education, Sandhya transitioned to become a serial entrepreneur, starting three companies (BiotechinAsia, SciGlo, and Shiok Meats) in the past decade. She successfully completed two M&As and had a successful exit from Shiok Meats via a merger. Sandhya was named Bloomberg New Economy Catalyst 2021 and featured on TIME and Forbes. She is also an advisor and investor in trailblazing food tech startups and has spoken at leading industry conferences worldwide.

She is the co-founder and former CEO of Shiok Meats Pte. Ltd. (her third startup), based in Singapore, the first cell-based seafood & meat company in Southeast Asia and the first cell-based crustacean company globally. With her at the helm as the Group CEO (2018-2024), Shiok Meats has raised US$30 Million in funding since its inception in 2018 from a global suite of investors - USA, Europe, Singapore, Japan, and South Korea, to name a few. Shiok Meats also acquired Gaia Foods, a cultivated red meat company headquartered in Singapore. Shiok Meats underwent a merger with another cultivated seafood company under her leadership.

She is also a Council Member at the Global Future Council on the Future of Food and Water Security World Economic Forum, an Advisory Board Member at the College of Science, Nanyang Technological University and a Visiting Research Scientist at the Asian Institute of Technology, Thailand. Sandhya has over 15+ years of experience working with muscle, adipose, skin, cells and stem cells. After graduating with a PhD from Nanyang Technological University in Singapore, Sandhya pursued her postdoctoral work at A*STAR in Singapore. Following four years of postdoctoral work, she took up business development at a research institute, where she discovered her passion for entrepreneurship. She is extremely passionate about ecosystem building.
