Meet Chris Maurice, Leighton Watson and Rob Barber, the team behind Quantum Arbiter, one of 22 ventures participating in the Sprout Accelerator Spring26 Cohort.
We caught up with the team for a quick-fire five questions in five minutes to learn more about their venture and what they hope to achieve from their time in the Sprout Accelerator.
1. Tell us about Quantum Arbiter. What are you building?
We are building a business that can deliver parametric insurance products both direct to customers and to brokers.
2. What problem are you working to solve?
When disaster strikes, claiming on traditional insurance is slow, expensive, and payouts may be much less than your losses. With parametric insurance, pre-agreed payouts are made in days, rather than years. The insured customer can concentrate on rebuilding their business instead of arguing with loss adjusters and negotiating settlements
We solve the following problems:
Certainty of claim, not a vague promise
Speed = days or weeks not years
Minimal effort: no evidence of loss is required to make the claim
3. How does your solution work?
We find risks where this is a more effective methodology than indemnity. We find and map the relevant parametric trigger to the loss. We assist the insured to understand their loss, to map to that trigger. We then build the underwriting model so it can be priced, and deliver the insurance solution to the customer and/or the broker.
4. What is the next important milestone for your venture?
We have insurance industry knowledge and technical expertise. We are looking for connections with New Zealand's largest insurance customers in the agricultural and transportation sectors. We want to understand where their current insurance is inefficient or, worse, is leaving them exposed to risks that we can help them cover. We are now focused on road closures and are building a draft underwriting and customer platform for this.
5. What are you hoping to get out of your time with Sprout?
In a very short time, Sprout has already connected us with people in some of New Zealand's biggest agricultural organisations. We look forward to Sprout opening more doors for us up and down the country and helping us to develop our minimal viable product that we can then take to customers.
